Sports & Leisure

Beard's construction work in the sports and leisure sector ranges from new build sports centres to hotel and pub refurbishments.

Whatever the project, Beard will work closely with the customer to minimise the impact of building works on its business or operations.

Beard is committed to providing value for money. We look in detail at every aspect of the construction process to optimise the efficiency of the project and achieve substantial savings for the customer. By carrying out value engineering, for example, Beard can source cost-effective alternatives to the products originally specified.

Beard saved Wycliffe College £40,000 by sourcing alternative cladding for the steel frame sports hall. Value engineering saved a further £60,000.

If you have a series of projects in mind, Beard's directly employed site mangers and trades people will provide continuity. The Caravan Club and Greene King are among our many customers who call upon Beard's expertise and efficiency again and again.

An example of our experience in leisure is the Radley College Real Tennis Court.

Beard built a new single-storey real tennis court with viewing galleries, offices, stores, climbing wall and bouldering area, giving Oxfordshire its second Real Tennis venue. In addition, over four phases of demolition and remodelling, the company refurbished the existing sports centre reception and circulation spaces, changing rooms and disabled changing facility.

The technical challenges arose from working in an existing building where unexpected issues such as obstructions in the ground, drainage and mains services diversions, and concerns with the existing structure were uncovered. Through continued co-operation with the design team and the college, Beard helped to overcome these issues smoothly, ensuring the project reached a successful conclusion.

“In building the tennis court the Beard team dealt professionally with the problems arising, such as the obstructions in the ground and drainage issues, and worked well with the design team to overcome these smoothly, ensuring the project reached a successful conclusion.”
